A
Achievements - Feature of newer casinos where players can complete missions to earn points and cash.
Action - A real-money wager.
Ante - A minimum bet made before a hand.
Autospin - Slot feature that lets players programme up to 50 spins.
AWP - 'Amusement With Prizes' - classic-style slot with minimal reels and paylines.

B
Baccarat - Classic casino game played between a 'Player' and a 'Banker'. Bets are made on whose hand will be nearest to a total of 9.
Banker - Position in a game of Baccarat and refers to the House's hand. Players can bet on the Banker to win the hand.
Bet Max. - Betting the maximum number of coins in an online slot game.
Blackjack
- Card game where players have to beat the dealer's hand.
Bonuses - Special prizes given to regular players.

Types of casino bonus can include:

Welcome Bonus - Awarded to new players making their first deposit. A set amount of wagers must be made before bonus cash is released.
Reload Bonus -
Awarded to regular customers for making a new deposit.
Free Spins -
Awarded to new players or when a new slot is released. A wagering requirement is usually required to access winnings.

Bust
- A player or dealer going over 21 in a game of blackjack.

C
Card Counting - System used in blackjack to gauge which cards are likely to be dealt next.
Cards
- Used in a game of blackjack or baccarat.
Caribbean Stud - Online card game played against the House but similar to 5-card Stud.
Cash-Out -
Withdrawing player funds from an account.
Cashier
- Area of the online casino where deposit and withdrawals are made.
Casino Hold'em - Casino version of Texas Hold'em where players must beat the dealer's poker hand.
Chat Name -
Special username created to use at online tables.
Chips -
Used to play a game of roulette or a table game. Chips denote real GBP at the table.
Coins -
Denominations used by slots players in a game.
Column -
Bet in roulette which covers a vertical line of 12 numbers.
Comp Points -
Credits earned for playing real-money games at a casino. Comp points can be traded in for cash or gifts.
Credits -
The amount of bets available in online slots.
Croupier
- Dealer in charge of the action at the table.
Customer Support - Service staff available to help with problems. Can be contacted via email, phone or live chat on-site

D
Deal - The distribution of cards to the players in blackjack or baccarat.
Dealer
- In charge of the action at the table. See Croupier.
Deposit - Load up a casino account with real-money funds.
Double Down - Move in Blackjack which lets players double their initial bet to receive one more card, and one more only.

E
eCOGRA - Respected testing lab that independently audits casino software and payouts.
Edge
- The House's advantage over the player (also see House Edge).
Encryption - Software used to protect players' data and personal details.
European Blackjack - Popular variant of Blackjack played with six decks of cards.
Even-Money - Bet that pays winnings to players at odds of 1/1. Also called 'evens'.

Popular even-money bets in casino games include:

- Outside bets in roulette (Red/Black, Odd/Even)
- A regular win in blackjack
- Come/Don't Come and Pass Line bets in Craps
- A winning Player bet in Baccarat

Expanding Symbol/Wild - An icon in an online slot that fills the whole reel to trigger bigger wins.
e-Wallet
- Method of deposits using an online, virtual wallet for safe transactions

F
Face card - Jacks, queens and kinds in a deck of cards.
Feature Bonus - Added round in an online slot that can award further cash prizes. Feature bonuses can take the form of:

- Free spins
- An instant cash win
- A randomly-triggered progressive jackpot
- A 'trail bonus' where a roll of the dice determines a position along a prize trail.
- Wheel of Fortune can award cash prizes and multipliers
- Skill-based round, which requires small skill element by the player

G
Games - Separate area of online casino that features chance games like dice, keno or heads and tails

H
Hand - Cards dealt by the dealer to a player in the game.
High Roller -
Gambler who likes to make large bets. Some games will be labelled 'High Roller' to indicate high stakes.
Hit
- Receive another card in Blackjack.
Hole Card - Down card dealt to the dealer in some blackjack games.
House
- The online casino
House Edge - Statistical advantage (in %) the casino has over the player.

I
Immersive Roulette -
Variation of Live Dealer roulette that allows multiple camera angles.
Inside Bets
- Wagers in roulette placed on numbers. A single number bet pays 35/1.
Insurance - Side bet in Blackjack that counters risk of the dealer being dealt a blackjack. Insurance bets usually pay 2/1 or 3/2 depending on the game variation.

J
Jackpot - The biggest prize available in a slot.
Jacks or Better - Popular video poker variant online where a minimum winning hand is a pair of jacks.

K
Keno - Lotto-type game offered at most online casinos.

L
Licence - Awarded to casino by gaming jurisdiction in order to offer games online.
Live Casino/Live Dealer
- Casino games that let players bet against a human dealer and watch the action via a webcam.
Lobby - Area of online casino where games are listed
Log-In - Username and password used to access the casino lobby.


M
Martingale - Betting system, usually used in roulette, that requires players to double their losing bet until they win.
Match Bonus -
A casino reward where a deposit is 'matched' by the casino by 50%, 100% or 200% if the player gambles enough on games within a set timeframe.
Micro-Stakes
- Small-limit table games and slots.
Mini-Baccarat - Quick version of Baccarat online where all cards are turned over before play for everyone to see.
Multi-Ball - Version of roulette where bets can be placed on more than one ball at once.
Multiplier - Prize bonus in an online slot which can be added to winning spins and free spins.
Multi-Table
- Version of roulette or blackjack where bets can be placed on more than one table at once.
Multi-Wheel - Version of roulette where the same bets are placed on up to three wheels at the same time.

N
Natural -
Being dealt a 21 in blackjack with the first two cards. Also a term in Baccarat for being dealt two cards that make a total of 8 or 9 straight way.
No-Download
- A casino client that can be played via the player's web browser without downloading to the desktop.

O
Odds
- Chances of a player making a win.
Outside Bets - Roulette bets made on columns of 12 numbers, sections of 18 numbers (1-18, 19-36), or the Red/Black and Odd/Even wagers.

P
Payline - Winning line of symbols in an online slot that pays a cash prize.
Payouts
- Prize winnings paid to players. Payouts are independently audited by external bodies.
Player - A bet in Baccarat. If the Player's hand beats the Banker's, all winners are paid 1/1.
Progressive Jackpot - Linked prize in online slots that are connected across multiple casinos. Jackpots are made up of a small percentage of players' wagers and triggered at random or by hitting a certain winning payline.
Push - A tied hand (in blackjack) between the dealer and the player. The player's stake is refunded to be bet with the next hand.

R
Reels - Vertical columns of symbols in an online slot that spin and land in random positions.
RNG (Random Number Generator) -
Online algorithm created by the software that governs the spin of the slot or deal of the cards. RNGs are regularly tested externally by auditing firms.
RTP (Return to Player percentage)
- Theoretical, long-term prize payouts made by a casino for every £100 spent at the casino or in a game.

S
Soft - Dealer's hand in blackjack that contains an ace that can count as 1 or 11.
Stacked Symbols - Icons in an online slot that can appear three to a reel.
Stand
- Take no further cards in a game of blackjack.
Suits - The colour of the deck. Cards feature four suits: diamonds, clubs, spades and hearts.
Surrender - Feature of some blackjack variants where players can opt to throw away their hand early and receive a partial refund.

T
Tie - A third betting option in Baccarat. If the Player and Banker's hand are the same, a bet on the tie pays 8/1.
Tier - Level of VIP status. Players can move up tiers if they play enough over the month. Regular play must be made to retain a tier.

U
Up Card - Dealer or player's card that's showing to the whole table.
Username - The online alias or handle that players use to log-in to their accounts with.

V
Video Poker - Online game played with five cards dealt on-screen. Players must decide whether to keep or discard cards in order to make the best five-card poker hand.
VIP Programme
- Casino loyalty scheme that rewards regular and big-spending players. VIPs can earn favourable bonus terms, faster cash-out times and special trips and gifts.

W
Wager - Another term for a bet.
Welcome Bonus - Awarded to new players making their first deposit.
Wild
- Symbol in an online slot that substitutes for any other symbol on the reels and helps form a winning combination.
