Free craps explained

Craps is one of the world’s most popular dice games. In a game of craps, the aim is quite simple: to predict accurately on what number two dice will roll.

Free craps is quite different to the real money game because it’s purely for fun. There are no real money prizes, but of course that means you’ll have no real money losses either.

What free craps games can you play?

Casinos offer different styles and variations of free craps games. Here are some of the most popular versions of the game you’ll encounter at online casinos.

How to play free craps online

It couldn’t be easier to play free craps at our top-rated online casinos. The exact gameplay will of course vary depending on which craps variant you’re playing, but otherwise, the format should be similar regardless of which casino you’re playing at.

Follow the instructions below to get playing in minutes:

  1. Sign up to a casino

Register with one of our recommended craps casinos by completing the sign-up form with the requested information, including your name, date of birth and address. You can take this opportunity to claim the welcome bonus as a new player (just make sure to read the T&Cs first).

  2. Join a table

Visit the casino’s free games library and type in ‘Craps’ in the search bar. A list of options should appear. Choose a table and load the game in your browser. You can also select a game from our selection of free craps simulators above.

  3. Place your bets

Decide on your budget before placing a bet. The easiest wager to start with is a pass line bet (betting with the dice). You’re betting that either a 7 or 11 will be rolled on the come out roll.

  4. Roll the dice

If a 7 or 11 is rolled, you win the bet instantly. A roll of 2, 3 or 12 ‘craps out’ and your bet loses. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 is rolled, this establishes the point. When a point is set, you want that number to be rolled again before a 7 is rolled as this means all pass line bets win. If a 7 is rolled before the point, ‘don’t pass’ bets will win instead.

  5. The round ends

Depending on what bet you placed and what numbers were rolled on the dice, you will be paid out accordingly.

Free craps betting strategies

Free craps can help you perfect your strategies before moving onto real money games, whether you’re trying out a simple strategy for the first time or you want to try a more advanced system that requires a bigger bankroll.

Some of the simplest and most beginner-friendly options are the ‘pass line’ craps strategy (only betting on pass line bets) and the ‘don’t pass/don’t come’ craps strategy (only placing don’t pass or don’t come bets). The latter is more suited to online gaming as you’re betting against the dice, which is seen as bad etiquette in brick-and-mortar casinos.

More advanced craps betting strategies include the ‘press and pull’ strategy. With this strategy, you ‘press’ your bets (meaning you increase your bets after a win) when a place bet lands and ‘pull’ your profits (take your winnings off the table) after the bet lands four times in a row.

Here’s an example of how a winning press and pull betting strategy would play out:

  1. You put a £6 bet on place 8 and an eight is rolled before a seven. Your bet wins and your £13 winnings are paid out.

  2. You ‘press the bet’ and put £12 on place 8. Again, an eight is rolled before a seven and you are paid out £26 in winnings.

  3. For the second time you press the bet and put £30 on place 8. Luckily, eight is rolled before seven again and you win £65.

  4. You press the bet for a third and final time, placing £66 on place 8. Remarkably, eight is rolled before seven for the fourth time and your bet wins £143 which you pull from the table.

As you can see, this strategy relies on a specific number being rolled four times in a row before a seven is rolled, which is a very rare occurrence. However, the above bets would technically only cost £10 from your bankroll, as the bets are essentially paid for by the previous bet’s winnings.

Free craps bets

  • Pass line: The most basic craps bet, this option wins instantly on a come out roll of 7 or 11. If a 2, 3 or 12 are rolled first, the bet loses. A roll of 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 or 10 establishes the point. If the point number is then rolled before a 7, the pass line bet wins. Wins are paid out at 1:1.

  • Don’t pass: This is betting against the dice. Quite simply, it’s the opposite of a pass line bet. You are hoping for a 2 or 3 on the come out roll (a 12 would push the bet), or a 7 before the point is rolled if it’s established.

  • Field bets: The ‘Field’ section is in the middle of the craps table and is a wager on the shooter rolling a 2, 3, 4, 9,10, 11 or 12 on the next roll. The payout for a 2 or 12 roll is 2:1, while all other numbers pay out even money (1:1). Numbers 5, 6, 7 or 8 result in a loss for the field bet.

  • Hardways bets: This is betting on pairs of numbers being rolled. You can bet on dice showing the same numbers (e.g., 2+2, 3+3, 4+4). There are four possible hardways bets and be aware that they are considered high-risk, high-reward bets because they are harder to hit than other types of wagers in craps.
