GUKPT Travels to Luton for £100,000 Tournament Debut

The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) is set to land in Luton this weekend where it will offer a £100,000 guaranteed prizepool for the first time.

Part of the tour’s improved schedule, the £560 main event will get underway on June 6. As well as a six-figure guarantee, this will be the first of two stops in Luton for the GUKPT this season.

GUKPT Building on Previous Success

Running two separate events in the Bedfordshire city is Grosvenor’s bid to give more value to more players.

In 2018, the GUKPT hosted its more familiar £1,110 main event inside Grosvenor G Casino, Luton. On that occasion, 304 entries pushed the £200,000 guarantee beyond the £300,000 mark.

Buoyed by that success, the organisers will run the same main event in October this year. However, before that, players can enjoy the GUKPT experience for half the price.

When Grosvenor announced the 13th season of its headline tour, mass participation was the main takeaway. On top of guaranteeing £2.3 million over the course of 2019, it added more low stakes and online MTTs to the schedule.

This weekend’s GUKPT Luton is one of those innovations. In tandem with a £100,000 main event, the festival will also feature a “mini main.”

Day 1A of the £115 mini main will take place online on June 1. After that, two additional flights will run inside Luton’s G Casino on June 2 and 3.

The £10,000 guaranteed mini main will come to a conclusion on June 4 before a 24-lull in the tournament action. From there, a selection low-cost MTTs will give the fallen another opportunity to play for some prize money as they exit the main event.

Grinders Gunning for GUKPT Goliath

With the GUKPT summer season in full swing, thoughts are already turning to the Goliath. Bidding to break another attendance record, the July event will also be David Haye’s time to shine.

The former boxing champ has been working with Team Grosvenor Poker over the last few months to improve his game. Despite being a novice, the Hayemaker cashed in an APT event in Manila last month.

He’ll be looking for more of the same in Coventry when the action gets underway. However, with thousands looking to knockout the heavyweight, winning Goliath gold won’t be easy.
