With the annual student showdown just days away, Grosvenor’s live tournament team is expecting the final number of entrants to hit the 1,000-mark.

The UK betting operator has been offering online satellites to the £37 main event for the last few weeks, with more than 100 players bagging a place in the tournament for just £0.25.

Affordable Entry Should Attract the Masses

Between the flurry of online activity and an affordable direct buy-in, the organisers believe that more players will ante up inside Grosvenor Casino Coventry than last year.

In 2017, the University of Northampton’s Daniel Welsford became UK Student Poker Champion after topping the 917-runner field.

Following a back-and-forth heads-up battle with Daniel Mehretab, Welsford eventually took down the event and banked £6,420 for his troubles. This time around, the event is trending to top 2017’s total, which means the prizepool could be worth as much as £30,000.

Under the terms and conditions of the UK Student Poker Championship, entrants in the main event can either be active students or have graduated within the last three years.

For those that are eligible, this year’s schedule will also feature a variety of “student only” side events.

A Full Roster Events

Kicking things off on April 1 will be a £50+£5 6-max online MTT. Getting underway at 8:00pm, the student-only event on Grosvenorpoker.com will play down to a final table of six before the players break and return on April 8 for a live final inside Grosvenor Casino Coventry.

For those students with more of their loans to spend, a £150+£20 high roller and a £300+£35 super high roller are sprinkled in among a selection of open events. As well as win the button and PLO tournaments, the visiting players can also expect a selection of cash games to be taking place inside the poker room.

When the curtain closes on the fifth annual UK Student Poker Championship, Grosvenor’s tournament team will turn its attention towards the Goliath.

Although some 25/25 and GUKPT festivals will precede the big one, the operator will be hoping to top the 6,385 entrants collected in 2017.
