PDC World Darts Championship

The PDC World Darts Championship is arguably the most important tournament in professional darts, running from late December to early January. It offers the biggest prize pool in darts, with a total of £1 million and £200K going to the winner. Crossover victories of BDO champions and PDC champions make it hard to know exactly which championship tournament is most challenging, but the PDC World Darts Championship is required watching for any serious darts fan. Some of the best darts betting markets are focused on the PDC World Darts Championship.

PDC World Darts Championship Tournament Format

The PDC World Darts Championship tournament has an elimination format that begins with a Preliminary Round to decide eight wild card players that join the initial 56 player field to make for a 64 player First Round. The first round is played to the best of 5 sets.

The winners of those 32 First Round matches then proceed to the Second Round, where play extends to the best of 7 sets.

The 16 Second Round winners make it into the Third Round and continue to play to the best of 7 sets for a chance to make the Quarterfinals.

In the Quarterfinals, the players go to the best of 9, with only 4 players to advance to the Semifinals.

The Semifinals are played to the best of 11, and leave just two to face off for the PDC World Darts Championship title.

The Finals are played to the best of 13 and provide some of the most nerve wracking televised darts action the world has ever seen.

PDC World Darts Championship Betting

It is hard to tell whether PDC World Darts Championship betting is more popular than betting on Premier League Darts, but it hardly matters as both are quite popular markets. One thing you have to be very careful of in PDC World Darts Championship betting is to get caught up in overall tournament bets too early. We generally wouldn't even consider such bets unless Phil Taylor is already out of the tournament, as the champion has been far too dominant for us to ever feel confident betting against him. We recommend match up bets with other players, as these should offer competitive odds and make for more interesting viewing of the PDC World Darts Championship.

PDC World Darts Championship Odds

Don't worry too much about how you will find PDC World Darts Championship odds - simply sign up with one of the UK focused sports betting sites in our review pages. They are all sure to offer PDC World Darts Championship odds in the lead up to the event, and many will already offer overall tournament odds (early bets on Phil Taylor to win can sometimes be worthwhile). We mostly recommend you wait until the event is running before you bet, so that you can take advantage of the match up odds that will offer better value than bets on overall tournament results, as well as giving you more opportunities to bet.
