Cricket Betting
How to bet on the exciting sport of Cricket.
While cricket is predominantly followed in countries with strong national teams - such as England, Australia, South Africa, and India - betting on the sport is still an extremely popular selection at online bookmakers. Depending on where you choose to bet, and what sort of sports your selected bookmaker targets, cricket can either be a popular choice with it's own section, or hidden away with smaller sports.
United States bookmakers still offer cricket bets, but usually reserve their special sections for sports such as basketball, ice hockey, and American football. UK and European bookies, on the other hand, will offer cricket as one of the first choices at their sportsbooks. Choosing the best online bookmaker can be a tough decision, so if you are looking for a new online sportsbook be sure to take a look at our list of the top online bookmaker venues.
There are a number of different ways one can make a bet on a cricket match, and with different variations of the game comes different betting opportunities. The money line is still a stock standard for cricket wagers, as it is for the majority of top sports, while futures and props can also play into the equation depending on which online bookmaker you are having a punt on.
If you aren't familiar with sports betting, or would simply like to know what sort of wagering options will be available to you in the online cricket betting sector, read on for more information.
Money Line
The money line is by far the most popular and easiest wager to understand at a sportsbook. While sports such as American football and basketball have their own "spread" bets in addition to the money line, standard cricket wagers often rely simply on the money line. If you wanted to make a bet on an upcoming cricket fixture, the money line would look something like this:
England: | -300 | 1.33 | 1/3 |
Pakistan: | +230 | 3.30 | 23/10 |
As you can see, the odds above are displayed in all three betting variations, although they all mean the same thing. England are heavy favourites to walk away with victory in this match, sitting at odds of 1.33 with the home advantage. If you were to back England for the win, you would need to risk $300 for a potential payout of $100. A correct result would see you pick up $400 inclusive of your initial wager.
However, if instead you chose to back the underdogs, Pakistan, a $100 bet would have the potential to return $230 in winnings. If Pakistan managed to cause an upset, you would walk away with $330 inclusive of your initial wager from a single $100 bet.
Futures
Futures are an integral part of any online sportsbook, as they offer a very different wager to the standard money line or spread bet. Outrights also play an important role in sports betting, and can be fairly similar to futures.
Depending on where you choose to make a punt, futures can vary; anything from Team To Win World Cup 2011 to Biggest Wicket-taker can be available, although online bookmakers that specialise in online cricket betting will usually offer more options than others.
