Joe Cada Wins 2009 WSOP Main Event

Joe Cada has won the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event in a heads-up game that saw him recover from a severe beating in early play before taking the title.
Despite leading in the chip count going into heads-up play, Cada’s lead was quickly claimed by an aggressive Darvin Moon. The initial tone of the match was set when on a 3/King/2 flop and Ace on the turn, Moon raised by 10 million chips. Cada called him, and the river was a King, to which both players checked. WSOP Main Event Down to Final Two Players

It got off to a slow start, but the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table has now been reduced to just two players; Darvin Moon and Joe Cada.
Everyone started out patiently, as there were too many dangerous players and impossible chip leads for anyone to think that taking an early risk was worthwhile. Eventually, Britain’s James Akenhead was the first to leave after a few hours of changing fortunes, first doubling up on a lucky draw, and then disastrously putting pocket Kings up against pocket Aces, followed shortly by pocket 3s against the pocket 9s of Jeff Shulman. Phil Laak has won the PartyPoker World Poker Open V tournament and $250,000.
It did not look good for Laak early on in the final table when he was down to only 47,000 chips and the blinds were at 15k/30k. But he managed to hang in there and double up a number of times to get himself back into contention and take on Austrian online qualifier Jan Veit, with a slight chip lead, heads up for the title.
