Party Poker World Open V won by Phil Laak

Phil Laak has won the PartyPoker World Poker Open V tournament and $250,000.
It did not look good for Laak early on in the final table when he was down to only 47,000 chips and the blinds were at 15k/30k. But he managed to hang in there and double up a number of times to get himself back into contention and take on Austrian online qualifier Jan Veit, with a slight chip lead, heads up for the title.
The hand that pretty much sealed the win for Laak was his A8 versus Veit’s A4, where his better kicked held on. The final hand saw Veit go all-in with J7 against Laak’s Q9. The board didn’t help anyone and Laak’s Queen was good enough for the win.
“This was a wild roller coaster ride and I am proud to have shared it with this amazing cast of characters. They were a tough bunch. Wow – what an honor,” Laak said.
It’s been awhile between wins for Laak, but it’s good to see one of poker’s more entertaining players take down a big tournament.
